Made for three situations

Most people who use the check are one of these. The questions, the answer and the plan are written for each.

  • Two women in their sixties gardening together

    We own our home together

Couples who want the survivor to stay in the house and the children to inherit whatever happens. The will, and whether the house should go into a trust in it, matter most.

  • A woman in her seventies at her kitchen table

    I live on my own

Widowed, divorced or single, and the house is the estate. When the home counts for care, what the deferred payment route means, and inheritance tax from April 2027.

  • A daughter in her fifties greeting her mother in the garden

    I’m helping Mum or Dad

Six in ten people who look into care are doing it for a parent. Run the check for them, share the figures, and have the conversation before a crisis makes it for you.

Why families can trust what they read here

No jargon, no scare stories, no selling. Just the rules, your figures and the honest routes, including the free ones.

See every source and the date we checked it

  • Every figure has a source and a date

The care limits, the tax bands and the £92 fee all link to GOV.UK, HMRC, Age UK and the Office of the Public Guardian, with the date we last checked.

  • The free routes come first

Free Wills Month, Will Aid and the GOV.UK power of attorney service are on every relevant page, before anything we charge for.

  • We never recommend a product

No lender, no adviser, no trust. Only a regulated adviser or a solicitor can, and we introduce you only if you ask, and tell you first if they pay us.

  • Not a law firm, and we say so

Our regulatory status is on every page. What we make is information and your own figures, set out clearly.

  • Full refund within 14 days

The House Plan costs £89 once, including VAT. If it is not what you need, one email and it is refunded the same day.

  • Secure payment, no account

Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay taken by Stripe. We never see your card details, and there is no password to remember.

Your will written, the house protected, the tax worked out

Three questions every family over 55 has to answer, in one place, in plain English.

  1. 1. Your will, written

Who inherits, who carries it out, and what happens if someone dies first. For a straightforward estate you get a draft will to print and sign, checked by a person. If yours needs a solicitor, we say so and hand you complete instructions instead.

  2. 2. The house: should it go into a trust in the will?

For couples who own jointly, a will trust can let the survivor stay in the house for life while each half still passes to the children. We show whether it fits your situation and what it does and does not do, including the honest answer on care fees.

  3. 3. Inheritance tax, now and after April 2027

Your bands, your figures, the pension change, and the gifts that are always free of tax. What would go to the taxman, and what a regulated adviser could change.

Also included: the care-fees answer for your own house, the power of attorney pack with the signing order, the family sheet that says where everything is, and a person who checks the whole plan.

“Wills matter! Power of attorney arguably matters more.”

MoneySavingExpert, March 2026

77% of over-55s have no lasting power of attorney. 133,760 applications were rejected in 2024 for avoidable mistakes.

Canada Life research; Office of the Public Guardian

Six in ten over-45s think a year of residential care costs under £60,000. The real figure is £66,000 to £80,000.

Questions people ask first

Is the check really free?

Yes. No card, no account. The answer is on screen and the figures come by email. The only thing we sell is The House Plan, and the check tells you honestly whether you need it.

Can you write my will?

For a straightforward estate, yes: the plan drafts your will from your answers, a person checks it, and you sign it with two witnesses. Will writing is not reserved to solicitors in England and Wales, but we are not a law firm and we say so. If your situation needs a solicitor (a previous marriage, a business, someone left out, a will trust, an estate over £1m) the plan tells you and gives you complete instructions to take to one. What is included.

Should I put my house in a trust?

Usually the honest answer is: not a lifetime trust, and never to dodge care fees. For couples who own jointly, a trust written into the will can be worth having. The plan tells you which applies to you. Read the guide.

How accurate are the figures?

They are estimates from the bands you choose and the rules in force in September 2026. The plan asks for exact figures and gives exact numbers. Only a solicitor or a regulated adviser can advise on your case.

Will you try to sell me equity release?

No. We explain lifetime mortgages as one of the options, with the arithmetic, because people ask. We never recommend a product or a provider.

Who sees my answers?

Only us, and any firm you ask us to introduce you to. We never sell data, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
